Job Description

Mechanical Engineering Intern - Plymouth, MN

Uni-Systems Engineering is a premier provider of custom mechanization for iconic structures and attractions that create unforgettable experiences. We partner with engineers, architects, and construction managers to mitigate risk and deliver functionally integrated, reliable structures. Our team of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers deliver custom, project-specific solutions to complex and unprecedented engineering challenges. With expertise spanning industries such as Aerospace, Amusement and Entertainment, Stadiums and Ballparks, Telescope Observatories, and Custom Cranes, we bring engineering excellence to every project.

Uni-Systems Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern who is excited to apply what they are learning in the classroom to unique, real-world engineering challenges.

As a summer intern, you will work alongside experienced mechanical engineers as a contributing member of active project teams. Our interns are included in the same project meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions as our engineers, giving you exposure to the full engineering process and the opportunity to see how decisions are made throughout a project. You will gain hands-on experience with engineering calculations, CAD modeling and drawings, component and material selection, and prototype and equipment assembly while seeing how custom mechanical systems move from design through fabrication and installation.

This is an opportunity to strengthen your technical skills, learn from experienced engineers, and make meaningful contributions to one-of-a-kind projects.

Full-time summer internship, 40 hours per week.

Internships generally run from late May through late August, with flexibility in start and end dates based on school schedules.

Each intern is paired with an experienced mentor who provides guidance and support throughout the summer.

Interns participate in periodic lunches, activities, and other opportunities to connect with fellow interns and employees across the company.

Create and verify engineering drawings, including design calculations and documentation, design sketches, design-phase and final drawings, and material and performance specifications.

Research materials and components and request quotes from vendors.

Assist with mechanical equipment assembly and prototype activities at the company warehouse.

Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions alongside engineers and other project team members.

Collaborate with mechanical, structural, and electrical engineers on multidisciplinary project work.

Participate in special projects within the Mechanical Engineering department as needed.

Contribute ideas for improving quality and performance related to shop and field assembly, adjustment, function, aesthetics, cost, and maintenance.

Support additional engineering activities based on project needs and your developing skills and interests.

Perform additional tasks as requested by management

Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR due to access to export-controlled technical data.

Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bachelor's candidates should generally be entering their junior or senior year.

Self-motivated and curious, with a desire to learn, ask questions, and contribute to real engineering work.

Prior exposure to steel design and frame or solid-element finite element analysis (FEA) software.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply engineering fundamentals to new and unfamiliar challenges.

Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet project deadlines.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

Able to apply sound judgment and problem-solving skills to complex projects and business challenges

If you are looking for an internship where you can apply your engineering education, learn from experienced professionals, and contribute to mechanical systems that are anything but ordinary, we encourage you to apply. We look forward to the possibility of you joining our dynamic team this summer!
